AGRU Kunststofftechnik GmbH-Manufacturing reliable pipes for decades.

The total cost of ownership (TCO) of a piping system depends on many factors, such as the design of materials, piping and fittings, and maintenance intervals. For more than 50 years, the plastic experts at AGRU Kunststofftechnik GmbH have used cutting-edge technology to manufacture pipes and fittings, improve processes and optimize results.

For decades, PE 100-RC, PP, PVDF and ECTFE thermoplastic piping systems have proven their value in industrial plants worldwide. Let's see how piping and fittings affect the total cost of ownership of a piping system.

How to minimize the head loss of the piping system The pump should always operate at the best efficiency to minimize the total cost of ownership. If the piping system loses its hydraulic capacity, it will lead to longer pumping times and increased energy costs. The impact on the hydraulic capacity of the pipeline system includes fouling, such as biofilm that grows over time, the roughness of the inner surface of the pipeline, the hydraulic design of the fittings, and the ineffective outgassing caused by the failure of the pipeline design.

All different pipe materials will exhibit biofilm and encrustation, and have a negative impact on the inner diameter of the pipe. If the pipe grows too much from the inside, the flow rate will decrease due to the decrease in diameter. More pressure and more energy are needed to maintain the flow rate. It is necessary to clean the pipeline through a pig. In this case, thermoplastic pipes and fittings are easier to clean than traditional pipes because their inner surface is very smooth, which prevents the strong adhesion of lime, shells or other organic materials.

The roughness of the inner surface of the pipe determines the friction loss in the pipe system. If the inner surface of the pipe is rough, fluid flow will create friction on the pipe wall, resulting in higher pressure loss. Depending on the liquid being transported, tube wall wear may also occur. Thermoplastic pipes do have very high wear resistance, thereby reducing the impact on the surface roughness of the piping system.

It is well known that over time, metal, concrete, and stoneware pipes will form a rougher inner surface due to corrosion and wear. In contrast, plastic piping systems have the advantage of a long-term smooth inner surface, which reduces friction and thus significantly reduces head loss. Lower head loss means lower power consumption, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership of the pipeline. The optimized design of the AGRU plastic piping system allows saving installation space on the job site. This saves the cost of industrial operations.

Another aspect is the hydraulic design of the accessories. The hydraulic performance of the AGRU piping system is mainly based on the professional accessory design completed in 55 years of research and development. AGRU has been producing injection molded parts since 1966 and has optimized its processes in all aspects. The wide range of products with an outer diameter of 20 mm and an outer diameter of 3500 mm provides high pressure resistance up to SDR 7,4, excellent flow characteristics and a wide range of materials, with excellent chemical resistance and temperature resistance. Proven connection methods on the job site, such as electrofusion welding, heated tool butt welding, and infrared welding, are further key capabilities of plastics specialist AGRU. The welding technology and consulting for each material and diameter of its pipeline components are the most advanced.

Piping systems for various applications AGRU Kunststofftechnik offers a wide range of piping systems that have excellent operational reliability, easy installation and extremely low maintenance costs. Whether it is a leak monitoring dual-sealed piping system Poly-Flo, a wear-resistant multilayer system MINELINE, or even a nitric acid-resistant ECTFE system, AGRU has the best solution for almost all industrial applications in its product portfolio. Below you will find an overview of the AGRU piping system:

PE 100-RC piping system AGRULINE pipes and fittings are made of innovative material PE 100-RC, which has strong elasticity and crack resistance. They are used for water, wastewater and gas transportation and can be installed without cost-intensive sand beds. The universal welding machine connects pipes made of PE 80, PE 100 and PE 100-RC with AGRULINE fittings to form leak-proof joints. The dimensions of all components of the system range from 20 mm outside diameter to 3500 mm outside diameter. Since the pipes and fittings come from a factory, they have the highest installation accuracy.

In addition, AGRU technicians will personally consult you on your project. Since AGRULINE is a maintenance-free piping system, it is homogeneous, longitudinally seamed and sealed, you will experience a very low cost of ownership. Many AGRULINE pipes are still intact and in operation after 50 years of installation, which means that the investment interval for PE pipes is calculated in decades. Polyethylene has another advantage: easy to install. Compared with steel or concrete pipes, PE pipes are lightweight, and due to the flexibility of the material, they usually allow changing directions without fittings. The smooth inner surface prevents adhesion and provides perfect flow characteristics, thereby reducing the head loss of the pump. AGRU only processes certified materials in accordance with the PE 100 Association guidelines. Because of this, pipes and fittings have high fracture strength, extreme resistance to crack propagation, pressure fluctuations and seismic activity.

The AGRU plastic pipes in PP piping systems PP-R and PP-H and the accessories in PP-R have proven their value in various industries for decades. PP is characterized by its excellent strength, stiffness, hardness, high temperature and chemical resistance. The use temperature range of this thermoplastic is between -5 °C and 95 °C. The PP piping system also plays an important role in reverse osmosis, which is used in desalination plants. Long-term corrosion resistance, salt and mineral resistance, and smooth inner surface ensure decades of maintenance-free operation. Due to the high typical operating pressures of such equipment, PP with high creep strength is the most popular material. AGRU provides various sizes of industrial pipes, multi-pipe fittings, extension pipe fittings, short socket pipe fittings, segment pipe fittings, socket welded pipe fittings, electrofusion welded pipe fittings and valves.

Fluoroplastic piping system PVDF is a thermoplastic homopolymer with excellent media resistance, high level of mechanical strength and highest purity, without additives or stabilizers. This makes it physiologically safe and suitable for ultra-high purity applications. It also has high mechanical strength and excellent chemical resistance, and works well at temperatures between -20 °C and 120 °C. For applications with temperatures between -30 °C and 140 °C or very corrosive chemicals, ECTFE is the right choice. ECTFE is composed of alternating ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene. This makes it an ideal material for applications involving high temperatures and extremely corrosive media.

When transporting oxidants such as concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4), nitric acid (HNO3) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and corrosive media such as concentrated alkali, ECTFE is the only low-cost corrosion-resistant plastic-performance ratio . Even if these media are transported under high pressure or high temperature, the AGRU ECTFE piping system can still remain impermeable and leak-proof. Excellent surface quality and abrasion resistance make fluoropolymers an ideal material for petrochemical, life science and food industries.

Conductive (antistatic) plastic piping systems must prevent static charges in the piping when handling flammable media. If the pipeline passes through a potentially explosive environment, a spark will cause an explosion. ESD (Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive) plastics, such as HDPE-ESD-el, provide safety by dissipating static charges in a controlled manner. Thanks to the addition of carbon black, these materials are conductive while retaining the known advantages of polyolefins, such as chemical resistance and ease of processing and installation.

PP-R and PE 100-RC double-sealed piping system The reliable Poly-Flo double-sealed piping system uses PP-R or PE 100-RC pellets for seamless extrusion of pipes and fittings. Its compact design has a small annular gap and low weight. Even in a narrow space, it can be installed easily and quickly by simultaneous welding. Poly-Flo doubles the operating safety due to the simultaneous squeezing of the medium and the protective tube and the leakage monitoring of the annular gap after installation. AGRU also provides prefabricated double-sealed pipes with various pressure levels made of PE 100-RC, PP, PVDF and ECTFE, with a maximum outer diameter of 800 mm.

Wear-resistant piping system The three-layer MINELINE piping system is specially developed for transporting highly abrasive media (such as mud). Economical operation with longer service life, minimal thermal expansion of the white surface, and high operational reliability are the most important characteristics of the system. The wear-resistant inner layer in the pipes and fittings protects the pipes from rapid and severe wear. MINELINE is designed for the most demanding mining applications and is also the best choice for other demanding applications.
